Mai Ly of Tampa, Florida, was enjoying herself on a cruise that traveled through a series of beautiful islands. She wanted to make the most of her time there, but had one creeping concern in the back of her mind: her grandmother’s ring.
The gold and diamond ring was a family heirloom that provided Mai with comfort after her grandmother died 2 years ago. She kept the ring tucked away in a safe inside her cabin so nothing would happen to it during her trip. Unfortunately, her plan didn’t work out the way she anticipated.
When it was time for her to check out, she was unable to find the ring in the safe and had to leave the ship without her precious heirloom.
Little did she know, the next passenger to stay in that same cabin found the ring and took it home.
In the video below, posted on April 10, 2017, a man named Mike King explains, “I started carrying it because I was like, ‘Now that we found it, I don’t want to lose it.'”
He says in the video that he originally thought taking the ring and bringing attention to it might be a bad thing, especially because the owner could be anywhere. Still, he went to his local Fox News TV station and held the ring up in an interview.
Luckily, Mai saw her dear heirloom on TV and immediately got in contact with Mike.
Mike happily returned the simple ring to Mai, and she is overjoyed and grateful. She says, “I don’t know how much it’s worth, but to me, it’s priceless.”
