In December 2015, a vicious tornado went through Rowlett, Texas, and it completely destroyed Michael Delgado’s house. The night his house collapsed from the force of the tornado, his grandma and brother had to be dug out from the wreckage.
But that was only the beginning.
Michael, his friend Frank, work crews, and other members of the community all worked together to help with the cleanup and search for survivors in the wreckage.
Their attention was quickly caught by a whimpering noise nearby.
They reached under a wall of the house’s former kitchen and found Saywer, the family dog.
They continued searching for more survivors — including their puppy.
But unlike Sawyer, whom they had heard, there was no sign or sound of Lucy anywhere.
Even as work crews cleared rubble and debris, Lucy was nowhere to be found.
Finally, they were about to leave the site of the wreckage for the night and passed by a pile of rubble they hadn’t touched all day.
And that’s when Michael heard the frantic whimpers coming from the pile.
He didn’t hesitate, diving into a hole between walls to try and reach Lucy.
