Lesley Tietz saw a Facebook post shared by her son. The Southington, Ohio, mother then realized that a 25-year-old man named Joe Dorsey needed a kidney donor.
“When I read it, I just felt I wanted to do it,” Lesley said.
Lesley and her family happened to live just a mile away from Joe, who’d found out he had kidney disease in just his second year of college. His condition was only getting worse.
“The doctors then started talking about a kidney transplant,” Joe said.
Two months after he began his search for a kidney donor, Lesley reached out. It was just in the nick of time, because Joe had just found out he needed dialysis.
“I really felt right then that it was the right thing that was supposed to happen. And everything from the first step all the way to the end went so easily that you couldn’t argue with it,” Lesley said.
The kidney transplant took place this September, and it was a success. Thanks to Lesley going out on a limb to help a man she didn’t even know, Joe can look forward to his future.
“I just love her and appreciate everything she did for me,” Dorsey said. “And I am looking forward to getting a teaching job, getting a house, and living the American dream.”
