In 2009, Lena McAllister was involved in a horrifying accident that left her paraplegic. While driving, she was hit by a 40-ton truck.

Her car was crushed, and she was ejected from it, 90 feet through the air.

Miraculously, she survived, but her injuries were so extensive that she had to use a wheelchair. She spent 10 months recovering in the hospital and in a care home. That’s when things went from bad to worse.

According to Lena, her boyfriend told her that she had become “half a woman” after her accident.

Lena was devastated, but she was not beaten. She kicked her cruel boyfriend to the curb.

“Those words made me more tough, and with relationships, I won’t put up with anyone who will treat me as delicate or fragile,” she said to Caters News.

“While I was recovering in [the] hospital, an older woman in a wheelchair told me, ‘Don’t settle.’ And at first, I didn’t understand what she meant. But now, I know that I shouldn’t compromise or settle with things because I have a disability. Nothing should hold me back.”

Nothing did hold her back. Lena moved on and fearlessly pursued a career in modeling. She even competed in the Miss Cumbria beauty pageant last year.

“Just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean your life stops. In fact, I believe, in some ways, it gives you more of a hunger to do more and see more.”
