Roseville, California residents are puzzled after a man’s home surveillance camera caught a rather large animal prowling the street in the dark.
Good Day Sacramento photojournalist Dave Grashoff told CBS Sacramento that he saw the animal before going to work on Tuesday morning.
He said, “I knew it was bigger than a cat, it almost looked like a golden retriever.”
“The last thing I would’ve expected to see that large cat, or mountain lion, or bobcat or whatever it might be,” he added. “It seemed to take this path right here.”
Indeed, his neighbors are a little concerned about the presence of a large wild cat after seeing the footage. It’s a scary thought, especially for those with small children.
Elmer Garcia lives nearby and told CBS Sacramento, “It’s totally different from an ordinary cat, and it’s kind of big for me too when I saw the video.”
The news station went to expert Lara Kirkendall who works with the Sacramento Zoo, and showed her the footage. She agreed that it was quite a big animal, but that these residents have nothing to fear.
She said, “In my professional opinion, even though that does look like a large cat, it appears to be a house cat.”
In regards to mountain lions, she added, “They are in the area, so it is possible to have a sighting of it, but from the small picture I saw it could be maybe a bobcat, someone’s main coon cat got out.”
It looks like it’s likely that these residents can breathe a sigh of relief!
