You don’t have to love Lady Gaga’s music to admire her work ethic, her kindness, or her generosity. The pop star makes headlines for both her smash hits as well as her good deeds, and it’s hard to argue that she doesn’t care for friends and strangers alike.

But this week, the celebrity’s focus was on her friend, Sonja. Sonja passed away in May 2017, after a brave battle with breast cancer. For her birthday, Lady Gaga celebrated her life and posted about it on social media.

She wrote, “Sonja would want us to celebrate her Birthday. So we are. Dressed in Pink and handing out pink chocolate kisses for #breastcancerawareness.”

However, that’s not the only way she’s honoring her dear friend. Sonja’s widower gave the pop star some of his late wife’s ashes, encased in a black pearl.

This is how she keeps her close to her heart.

Sonja was the managing director for Haus of Gaga, the creative team behind the singer’s uniquely eccentric style and persona. She also made an appearance in the star’s recent documentary, Five Foot Two, which allows a rare peek into Lady Gaga’s life. Her song “Grigio Girls” is about their friendship.

The 42-year-old will not be forgotten, and we’re sure that the pop star will keep her friend’s memory alive!
