Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are a deeply inspirational couple. They’re cute together, they seem to have a very healthy relationship, and they know how to have a good time.

But it hasn’t always been all fun and games for this Hollywood couple.

Dax, 43, just celebrated 14 years of sobriety after a long battle with substance abuse. And Kristen, 38, posted a sweet tribute to her husband to congratulate him on his “sobriety birthday.”

“I know how much you loved using,” Kristen wrote in an Instagram post. “I know how much it got in your way. And I know, because I saw, how hard you worked to live without it.”

Before meeting Kristen, Dax habitually used alcohol and drugs.

“I just loved to get f***ed up — drinking, cocaine, opiates, marijuana, diet pills, pain pills, everything,” Dax told Playboy in 2012. “Mostly my love was Jack Daniel’s and cocaine.”

Kristen, on the other hand, has always been more of a “good girl.” Early in their relationship, the opposites found common ground, and in 2013, they married. Dax has now been sober for 14 years.

“To the man [who] mocked me in our wedding photos because I cried too many tears of joy,” Kristen’s emotional post began.

“Who wore a baby Bjorn for 2 straight years to show his girls how to be as adventurous as possible.”

“Who held our dear little shakey mann pup for 8 hrs straight on the day we had to put him down.”

“I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night.”

“You never fail to make amends, or say sorry when it’s needed. You are always available to guide me, and all of our friends, with open ears and tough love when it’s needed most.

“You have become the fertilizer in the garden of our life, encouraging everyone to grow.”

“I’m so proud that you have never been ashamed of your story, but instead shared it widely, with the hope it might inspire someone else to become the best version of themselves,” Kristen continued.

“You have certainly inspired me to do so.”

“I love you more than I ever thought I could love anyone, and I want you to know, I see you. I see how hard you work. You set an excellent example of being human.”

“Happy 14th year sobriety birthday,” she finished.

And then the internet collapsed in tears.

Dax’s story is inspiring, as is his relationship with Kristen.

Lots of people chimed into Kristen’s post with their own stories of recovery.

People can relate to how important it is to have people to support you on such a journey.

And they’re inspired by Kristen and Dax’s healthy, loving relationship.

To the point that it made them a little teary.

And honestly, we’re feeling a little weepy, too. What a great couple!
