I Smeared Mayo And 3 Other Kitchen Items On My Hair To See If They Worked Better Than Shampoo

I’m definitely one of those women who will try anything that promises gorgeous hair. So when I heard that items in my kitchen could be better than expensive shampoo, I wanted to give it a try.

I was excited to see if any items I already had in my kitchen would be the secret to beautiful, silky-smooth locks.

People are always complimenting me on the color and thickness of my hair, and I can’t say it’s anything but good genes. I wondered though: Was there a miracle product I already owned that could make my hair look even better?

That’s why I decided to try out this shampoo hack. I used four different kitchen items and swapped them in for shampoo to see if they worked better than store-bought products.

The products at hand were: eggs, mayo, soda, and banana.

Each promised to do something different for my hair. Mayo is said to add shine and cut frizz. Soda apparently is the secret to perfect beach waves. Egg is supposed to give your hair shine. And banana retains moisture.

Every day, I would swap my shampoo for one of the kitchen products. Every night, I’d would wash my hair normally to get it back to its base and start over.

I had a pretty good feeling that the soda was going to work, but I was not expecting mayo to do my hair any favors.

In the video below, you’ll see how these kitchen products worked out — and which ones surprised me the most.

In addition to the four below, I also tried avocado, apple cider vinegar, and beer. I would only recommend using apple cider vinegar every other week to rinse out product buildup. The beer made my hair greasy, and the avocado didn’t increase shine as promised.

Since everyone’s hair is different, results may vary! Watch the video below to get a step-by-step guide to try it yourself.
