The Kardashian-Jenner family just gained one new member!
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed a baby girl on January 15, 2018, according to TMZ.
Reports say the newborn weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz. The couple has yet to reveal the baby’s name.
The reality star also confirmed the news with a blog post shared on her website. “Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl,” she wrote, according to Entertainment Tonight. “We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care.
North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”
The new baby is the third child for both Kim and Kanye. She joins 4-year-old sister North and 2-year-old brother Saint. The little girl was welcomed via surrogate, due to medical issues that Kim suffered throughout both of her pregnancies.
News that Kim and Kanye were expecting their third child (and that the baby would arrive via surrogate) was reported in September. At the time, sources told People that the baby was expected in January 2018. Those reports were officially confirmed a few weeks later, in a teaser for the family’s reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Appearing on the November 15, 2017, episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kim also accidentally confirmed reports that the new baby would be another girl — her second daughter — and playfully shot down a handful of Ellen’s joking name suggestions.
Kim’s path to surrogacy wasn’t easy. She’d struggled to get pregnant with her second child, Saint, and recently revealed that she’d lost an embryo that had been implanted during fertility treatments before successfully conceiving her son.
Earlier this year, she opened up to ET Online about the ways it was “so much harder” to have a child via surrogate:
Anyone that says or thinks it is just the easy way out is just completely wrong. I think it is so much harder to go through it this way, because you are not really in control[…] [K]nowing that I was able to carry my first two babies and not, you know, my baby now, it’s hard for me.
Thankfully, everything worked out for the best, with Kim and Kanye finding the “perfect” surrogate in a woman they completely trusted — and now, Kim finally has the third baby she’s long wanted in her arms.
