What a tragic end to a beautiful life.

Kate Spade was found dead in her Park Avenue home at the age of 55.

According to TMZ, the iconic fashion designer was discovered Tuesday morning, and Page Six reports her housekeeper was the one who found her. Law enforcement officials “confirm she was found at 10:20 a.m. EST” and was pronounced dead at the scene. It was also reported that Spade hanged herself using a red scarf that had been tied to a doorknob.

Kate Spade got her start in the fashion biz in 1986 when she worked at Mademoiselle in Manhattan. She and spouse Andy Spade (brother of actor David Spade) launched Kate Spade Handbags in 1993.

In 1996, just a mere three years later, the Kate Spade brand opened its first store, and from there morphed into a multibillion-dollar company.  The couple has one child together, Frances Beatrix Spade, who is only 13 years old.

Kate Spade was a staple in the fashion industry and was loved by many across the globe. Her impact on the fashion and accessories world will forever be felt by those who knew her and those who were fans of her work.

Spade’s husband Andy was reported to be home at the time of death. There was also said to be a suicide note, addressed to their 13-year-old daughter.

Rest in peace, Kate. You will be missed.
