During a court hearing in November 2015, Chief Judge Frank Caprio of Caught in Providence fame noticed a little boy standing by his father’s side in the courtroom.

Darryl, a pizza shop owner, was being charged with a parking violation. He brought his adorable five-year-old son, Jacob, to the courthouse.

The second Judge Caprio saw Jacob he invited him to sit with him on the bench. “Come up here, see if you can help me out,” he told the boy.

Known for his compassion and kindness, Judge Caprio decided to let Jacob help decide his father’s fate. Depending on what Jacob said, he would either charge Darryl $90, $30 or wave the penalty completely.

But just as the decision was about to be made, Judge Caprio asked Jacob if he’d eaten breakfast yet that morning. “No,” he replied.

And with that, the father and son team earned themselves a break — as long as one simple request was met.

Judge Caprio’s one requirement for Darryl will put a huge smile on your face.
