“I’ll take, ‘Will You Marry Me?’ for $2000, Alex,” is what he should’ve said.
Michael Pascuzzi of Orlando, Florida, was competing on the hit game show Jeopardy! last week, but when host Alex Trebek went to ask Michael a little more about himself, as Alex does with each contestant who appears on the show, he had nothing to go off of.
“I have absolutely nothing on the card,” Alex said. “So what do you want to talk about?”
After stuttering a bit, Michael turned to his girlfriend and said, “I just wanted to, um, say one quick thing and ask my girlfriend, Maria Shafer, right there, if she would make me a winner today — and marry me.”
As the camera panned over to an unsuspecting Maria, the audience couldn’t contain their awws as she covered her mouth in disbelief.
“We’ll have the answer to that question right after this commercial break,” Alex said.
But luckily for viewers — and Michael — they didn’t have to wait too long.
In true Jeopardy! fashion, Maria replied in the form of a question: “That would be… what is yes?”
Michael said he had help from the show to pull off the marriage proposal, and that Alex himself was totally in on it!
“I came up with the idea in the green room,” Michael said. “I had been mulling it. I was going to do it this year.” He continued, speaking of Alex: “He could have shot it down. He was in on it.”
