Jennifer Lopez Dishes On Her Secret Formula For Looking And Feeling Her Best At Age 49

If you had to tell Jennifer Lopez’s age just by looking at her, you’d likely never guess that the star will be celebrating her 50th birthday next summer.

The star has been wowing us with her combination of looks and talent since she stepped onto the scene as a Fly Girl in 1991 on In Living Color. Since then, she captured the spirit of an icon in 1996’s Selena, wore a certain green Versace dress that no one will ever forget at the 2000 Grammy Awards, and ruled the rom-com circuit throughout the early 2000s.

These days, Jennifer is loving life and continuing to thrive. She’s a mom to 10-year-old twins Max and Emme.

She’s enjoying a wonderful relationship with former New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez. Her latest movie, Second Act, comes out later this month and features her working alongside real-life friend Leah Remini.

Throughout her decades-long career, Jennifer has maintained her fresh, glowy look. Now she’s opening up to People about just what it takes to age so gracefully.

As Jennifer Lopez nears the big 5-0, her life seems pretty sweet.

She’s a hardworking, hands-on mom to 10-year-old twins, Max and Emme.

She’s enjoying a fabulous relationship with her beau, Alex Rodriguez.

She has a new movie, Second Act, coming out, in which she stars alongside her IRL bestie, Leah Remini. The film sends an awesome message packed full of girl power.

In a recent sit-down with People, Jennifer discusses all of the wonderful things going on in her life and addresses a topic we’re all dying for answers about.

Just how does J. Lo keep that amazing, sculpted body intact?

For Jennifer, staying in shape and looking fierce at almost 50 takes a multifaceted approach.

“I sum it all up as trying to live a healthy lifestyle,” she explained.

Of course, we know that the definition of a healthy lifestyle widely varies from celeb to celeb. Jennifer’s routine seems to be much less restrictive than that of your average starlet.

For one thing, sleep is an important part of the process. She tries to get between seven and nine hours of shut-eye each night, and even more on a day off.

Staying hydrated is also an important part of achieving the J. Lo glow.

As far as workouts go, she doesn’t stick to a stringent routine. She switches it up, whether it’s shaking her infamous booty in her home dance studio, keeping her core strong with yoga, or circuit training and weightlifting to maintain muscle.

“I feel like as you get older, you lose muscle,” she noted.

She also doesn’t take the restrictive approach many of Hollywood’s famous faces do when it comes to eating.

“I’m not a perfect eater, but if I feel like I’ve been naughty for a few days or if I’m trying to slim down a couple of pounds, I’ll do a protein shake in the morning and one at night,” she said, also revealing that her go-to option is a sunflower butter, chocolate protein powder, and banana shake.

It isn’t all about keeping her body in check, of course. It’s just as important to Jennifer to stay spiritually and mentally strong with meditation and daily affirmations.

“I’ll go outside and open up my arms to the universe, to the heavens, to God,” she explained.

There’s no doubting that all of these factors are keeping Jennifer looking and feeling fabulous. Turning 50 can be an anxiety-inducing milestone, but for her, it’s just another step in the process.

“I’m just trying to take care for myself,” she humbly noted. “I think I’m hangin’ on!”
