Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have separated.
The celebrity couple revealed the unexpected news in a joint statement to the Associated Press.
People reports that the former couple told the AP the decision to split was “mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year.”
“Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly,” read the statement from Jennifer’s longtime publicist, Stephen Huvane. “Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”
Jennifer and Justin, best known for his starring role on The Leftovers, married in a surprise, secret ceremony in August 2015, according to People. The pair began dating in 2011, several years after first meeting on the set of the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder.
Jennifer was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005, divorcing after Brad famously fell in love with Angelina Jolie on the set of their movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Brad and Angelina separated in 2016.
