If you’ve ever heard any tales from the set of The Office, you’ll realize that these weren’t just people who were friends on camera.
Their kinship frequently spilled into real-life.
It’s been six years since the show’s series finale, but the cast is still super tight. It isn’t unusual to see B.J. Novak appear in a selfie with Mindy Kaling, for example. In fact, he’s her daughter’s godfather. Now one of the show’s greatest off-screen friendships has birthed a new project that still shows love and appreciation for the Dunder Mifflin gang.
The project is a podcast from costars and besties Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey.
Office Ladies will recap the show episode by episode, giving fans all the behind-the-scenes details, from scenes that were hard to shoot to accidents that occurred while shooting. While it’s special for fans to learn all these little-known details, it’s also special for Jenna and Angela, who get to enjoy the show from a different perspective.
There are few shows that have the loving and dedicated fan base that The Office has. Even though the show’s series finale aired six years ago, fans still love the show just as much as when it was brand new.
What you may not have known is that the cast members of The Office loved the show and being on it just as much as we loved watching them. The on-screen friendships spilled over into real life and are stronger than ever before.
Now fans of the show will get to benefit from one of the closest friendships that spawned from it. Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesly, and Angela Kinsey, who played Angela Martin, have launched a new podcast.
The ladies are coming together for Office Ladies, a podcast that will recap each episode from the series. Jenna and Angela will share behind-the-scenes details from the creation of the episode that are often just as hilarious as the episodes themselves.
The idea for the podcast came about when Angela and Jenna both happened upon memorabilia from the show in their respective homes. They realized they wanted to preserve these memories, but also share them with fans.
They originally thought to just choose some episodes to take this approach with, but they quickly realized each one has a special story.
“I think there’s so many memories from each episode and so many fun things to talk about in each of them that it became difficult to choose which ones to pick and choose episodes,” Angela told CNN.
During the interview, Angela and Jenna revealed that during filming the cast of the show would get together for potluck watch parties at each other’s homes. They were a product of the deep friendship they all genuinely shared.
The two believe they have a fresh perspective on what happened on set now that it’s all in the past. “At that time, we were so close to it. And you feel so vulnerable, and you have to go back the next week and make more of it,” Jenna explained.
“It’s [a] job when you’re doing it and now we can just be an audience,” Angela added. Since they announced the podcast, a number of their fellow cast members have spoken out in support of the endeavor, with Rainn Wilson even appearing on the most recent episode.
Angela and Jenna would like to eventually have each of their costars, as well as directors and writers from the show, on as guests so they can share their memories as well. They’re also excited about all the new fans they can reach, because the show’s popularity has only increased.
It’s the first time Jenna and Angela have officially taken their talents to podcasting. Jenna thinks she’s getting the hang of it. “There were like three people who I would go into battle with, and number one is Jenna Fischer because she would have an organized formation. She would know her opponent. That’s who you want on your side,” Angela said of Jenna’s abilities.
“I do have some Dwight Schrute-ian qualities,” Jenna admitted of her list-making and note-taking tendencies. The ladies have committed to covering just the first two seasons of the show, but they hope that fan feedback will allow them to continue through the series.
Eventually, Angela and Jenna want the show to be more interactive with fans. “We really want it to be the fans getting to rewatch the show with us — like they’re coming over, they’re sitting on the couch with us, we’re going to watch, and chitty-chat,” Angela explained.
A new episode of Office Ladies is released each Wednesday and is available wherever you listen to podcasts. There are already a few out, so be sure to catch up on all the hilarious details that Angela and Jenna have been so kind to share.
