Jazzy weighed 146 pounds by the time she was six years old.
At six weeks old, she was taken to the hospital with an upper respiratory infection. Doctors put her on steroids, and told Jazzy’s parents to expect some weight gain as a result. However, nothing prepared them for the quick, excessive weight gain that spiraled out of control. At one year old, Jazzy weighed over 60 pounds — almost three times more than the average one-year-old. She grew up being bullied by her classmates, and the torture was relentless.
One day, a boy in Jazzy’s class pushed her out of her chair. Everyone laughed at her, helpless on the floor. “For your child to come home and tell you that her friends are calling her fat and ugly, it’s a terrible feeling,” mom Lucia said on The Meredith Vieira Show. “Of course I questioned my parenting. Of course I questioned if I could do something about it.”
Now, at the age of seven, Jazzy is taking it upon herself to become healthier. In less than a year, she has already lost 40 pounds, simply by exercising and changing her eating habits. Lucia is a proud mom. She says, “It’s amazing. She’s an amazing little girl.” Jazzy is even helping Lucia and their entire family get healthier and lose weight. Jazzy, you’re awesome.
