Jason Momoa’s look lends to his sexy, bad boy image. At 6-foot-4, his muscular frame and size make him a physically intimidating man.
It led to his roles as Khal Drogo, Conan the Barbarian, and, more recently, Aquaman. In reality, however, the star has a heart of gold. He’s a doting husband to Lisa Bonet. He loves and supports his castmates in their various projects. He even recently shaved off his signature beard to raise awareness for environmental causes. He’s a good guy, but also not the kind of guy you’d want to mess with. That didn’t stop someone from trying to do just that many years ago.
Jason has a scar on and above his left eyebrow. In a New York Post interview in 2011, Jason talked about the scar and the intense situation that led to it. Jason got the scar in a bar fight, but there’s much more to the story. All things considered, he’s lucky to have walked away with just that injury.
Jason Momoa is a beast among men. The tall, muscular actor has always had a domineering presence that many of his fans find very attractive.
As a result of his commanding presence, Jason’s played a lot of intimidating roles. Many people grew to know and love him as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.
That’s not to say that Jason isn’t a complete sweetheart. In fact, if you watch the actor’s interviews or see him on the red carpet next to wife Lisa Bonet, you’d think he’s just a big teddy bear.
He’s also very passionate about environmental causes. He shaved off his signature beard after growing it for seven years to increase the conversation around recycling and reducing the use of plastics.
As sweet as Jason is, he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy you’d want to mess with. He’s clearly into fitness and takes good care of his body to stay in the kind of shape he’s in.
That didn’t stop someone from trying it, though. In 2011, Jason talked with the New York Post about the scar on his left eyebrow.
“I got called ‘pretty boy’ my whole life,” the actor explained of his life before getting the scar. Certainly, Jason did boast a different look at the beginning of his career in the early 2000s.
His clean-cut look was tarnished in 2008 when a bar fight led to the scar above his eyebrow. It began with a verbal altercation.
He recounted the story to Access Hollywood in 2011. He believes the man he got into the fight with was taking part in a gang initiation.
“It was crazy. A guy smashed a pint glass in my face,” he explained. “I got a little over 140 stitches in my face. It helped get those mean roles.”
The man who attacked Jason was named Dominic Bando. While he also suffered some injuries in the altercation, he was ultimately sentenced to five years behind bars as a result.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t the first time Jason took a blow to the face. Jason told the Chicago Sun-Times that he had his nose broken for his role as Conan the Barbarian.
“I wanted to have my nose broken for this role but wasn’t sure how to accomplish it. I was like, Dude, I have this idea. I think you should break my nose. Would you do it? My buddy just did it right away, damn it,” he explained, per IMDb. “After it was over, I said, ‘Dude, didn’t you want to think about it for a minute?’ But we’re guys and he said, ‘You don’t have to ask me twice. Done deal.'”
You’d think all those blows to the face would actually hurt Jason’s looks, but clearly, they’ve only added more depth to the actor’s charm. A tough-looking guy with a heart of gold is a hard thing to pass up.
