Last night, at the very end of the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, country star Jason Aldean took the stage to end the music festival on a high note.
Just moments later, a gunman opened fire on the crowd, killing at least 50 people and wounding hundreds of others.
The gunman, who fired from a nearby hotel, was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock. Police say he took his own life after the massacre.
This mass shooting, the deadliest in modern US history, left thousands of concertgoers shaken and distraught. Even those who weren’t injured were traumatized by the attack.
When he realized what was going on, Jason Aldean and his team ran offstage to safety.
Just hours after the attack, Jason took to Instagram to address the horrific situation that took place during his performance.
Many injured concertgoers are still fighting for their lives, but Jason and his crew are keeping the victims in their thoughts.
A few hours after the attack, Jason posted the above photo on Instagram. He also wrote:
Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe.
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight.
It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night.
Jason Aldean was onstage for the final performance at Las Vegas’s Route 91 Harvest Festival when gunfire broke out.
Concertgoers were excited to see Jason perform. At first, they were confused by the chaos, then terrified.
Mid-performance, they heard the sound of automatic gunfire, which was initially mistaken for fireworks.
Once it became clear that an attack was underway, the country superstar and his team left the stage.
This story is still developing, but as of the morning of October 2, 2017, 50 deaths have been confirmed. Over 400 people were wounded.
