Eight Easy Ways To Instantly Feel Happy In Your Own Skin!

I don’t know any individual — regardless of age or gender — who is completely free of body image hang-ups.

Some days, it feels like an epidemic of insecurity, with everyone (myself included) searching for a cure for that one “problem” with our bodies.

But lately, I’ve started thinking there’s nothing unhealthier for our bodies than scrutinizing every little detail.

After all, stunning women of all shapes and sizes are making the argument that true beauty comes from within, as we saw with powerful yogi Jessamyn Stanley and her campaign for self-love.

At the end of the day, body positivity means that none of us should be beating ourselves up over a handful of stretch marks or the last 10 pounds of baby weight.

Unless health or quality of life is seriously affected, all women need to start looking at all those little “flaws” as proof of a rich and interesting life full of experiences!

So far, I’ve learned that improving my own self-image starts with changing bad habits and teaching myself new ways to think about body positivity.

Here are a few of the best steps we can all take to instantly fall in love with the skin we’re in!

1. Forget The Numbers

No matter what major retailers tell us, you just can’t attach a number to your sense of self-worth!

Next time you go shopping, try clothes on by eyeballing the sizes, rather than by checking the tags.

For clothes you already own, cut tags out or mark size over with a fabric marker whenever possible.

We aren’t just 10’s or 12’s or 14’s. We’re all individuals with our own hips and curves and butts. No piece of clothing will fit us all the same, no matter what the number says!

2. Pamper Yourself

Nothing will make you feel happier or more content in your skin than a long, luxurious soak in the tub.

After all, if you want to feel good about your body, the first step is putting in the time to make yourself feel appreciated and treated.

Whether you book yourself a massage, hit up a yoga class, or break out the bath bombs, give yourself a couple of hours to indulge in feel-good relaxation!

3. Shed Some Layers

Feel refreshed in an instant by shedding some of your material baggage! It’s amazing how much stuff we all acquire, and how good it feels to finally part with it.

Go through your wardrobe and pull out all the clothes that make you feel bad about yourself.

No matter what you paid for it or how new it is, if it’s too tight, too big, too scratchy, too anything, toss it in a bag and donate it to a good cause. Life’s too short for clothes you don’t love!

4. Get Moving

If you’re feeling down on yourself, the most effortless way to redirect your mood is by getting active!

If that means hitting the gym for a crazy cardio class, great! But for most of us, it’s enough to crank up the volume on a favorite jam and just dance around the living room.

Whatever movement you pick will get feel-good endorphins flowing in your brain, which will leave you feeling more upbeat in general!

5. Don't Bully Yourself

If you look in the mirror and immediately start scrutinizing and criticizing every little detail, it might be time for a vacation from self-analysis.

Try taking a weekend off from mirror time, and when you come back to it, make a point of only focusing on the positives.

Make a list of all the things that you love about your appearance and take a minute to notice each one in the mirror — that way you can flip the script on your critical inner-monologue!

6. Get Naked

When you’re feeling lousy about your body, it’s easy to dread stripping down and abandoning the protection of carefully-selected, flattering clothes.

That said, the best way to get over the anxiety of being nude is to take some time and just get naked.

Get reacquainted with how it looks and feels to strip down to the bare essentials, and appreciate the power and strength of spending some time au naturel.

It’s easy to get lured into thinking that you need validation and approval from others before you can feel good about yourself, but it’s far more important that you make sure that your inner dialogue is positive!

Getting a compliment from a friend is a nice temporary boost, but it’s no substitute for the long-lasting glow of inner confidence and happiness.

No matter how you’re feeling, always remember that your body is a genuine miracle! When you think about it, it’s incredible how much these muscles and curves and bones do.

Whenever you’re feeling down on yourself, just remember that — regardless of how it looks — this wonderful body allows you to love, to laugh, and to live an incredible life!

At the end of the day, that’s what it means to have a perfect body!

Did this give you a fresh perspective on feeling good in your own skin? Don’t forget to pass on the positive energy, and SHARE with friends and family!
