The world lost a pop culture icon when David Bowie died on January 10, 2016.

The rock legend had a lasting, game-changing impact on the music industry throughout his decades-long career and continues to inspire new music artists to this day. But while his fans lost a celebrity they admired, David’s wife Iman lost her longtime husband and the father of their daughter.

Iman and David were married for two decades. During those years, the couple wasn’t shy about professing their love for one another.

In a 1997 interview with the New York Daily News, David confessed he’d “stumbled onto bliss [with Iman]. And I have no intention of finding my way back out.”

In 2002, shortly after the couple welcomed their daughter, Lexi, the singer told the same reporter, “I’m frighteningly happy. I don’t see ever wanting to change things in my personal life. Iman and I are very happy, and we have the most fabulous baby.”

Sure enough, the two remained happily married until David’s death.

From Iman’s frequent social media tributes to her late husband, it’s clear that he was the love of her life and she won’t soon forget him. In honor of the recent anniversary of his death, Iman shared the lasting way she’d found to make her late husband a part of her forever.

“I fell in love with David Jones. I did not fall in love with David Bowie. Bowie is just a persona. He’s a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met,” Iman famously told The Independent in 2014.

On January 9, 2018 (the day before the two-year anniversary of David’s death), Iman shared several throwback photos from the couple’s 2003 Tommy Hilfiger campaign. “My favorite love story is ours! #BowieForever #ForeverAndEver,” she captioned the series of black-and-white pictures.

Iman also shared photos of David as a baby.

The following day, to mark the two years since David had died, the supermodel shared a post with two photos of tattoos.

Iman didn’t confirm whose tattoos they were, but they’re believed to be inked tributes that she and Lexi each got to honor David.

The tattoo that’s thought to belong to Lexi is of a crescent moon with the words “Daddy xxx, 1947-2016,” for David’s birth and death years. The second photo is of a tattoo of a bowie knife that appears to be on Iman’s own ankle.

“You will always be part of us. Jan 10th #BowieForever #EverAndEver,” Iman captioned the post.

In addition to Lexi, David was also a father to the film director Duncan Jones, his now 46-year-old son with his first wife, Angie.

“I’m actually pretty cheery today! Dad lived ten lives in the years he had! There are many lessons he taught me, but todays most important one is this; don’t beat yourself up. Ever. Learn, pick yourself up, & go do something new & brave!” Duncan tweeted on January 8, 2018, which would’ve been his dad’s 71st birthday.
