In big cities like New York and San Francisco, real estate comes at a hefty cost. Because of this, many young professionals find themselves living in studios or tiny one-bedroom apartments with little space to decorate or furnish. However, living in a small space doesn’t necessarily mean you need to think small. In fact, the key to making the most of limited space is knowing how to utilize every bit of it with the right furniture and accessories.
For the IKEA Home Tour Squad‘s latest project, the team headed to San Francisco to help couple Vivian and Dominic transform their small studio into a more functional living area. With affordable and fashion-forward furniture and accessory options from IKEA, the team was able to completely convert the space into three separate areas for eating, lounging, and studying.
Using simple tips and tricks, the IKEA Home Tour Squad was able to maximize the pair’s space and fit both a kitchen island and a desk into the tiny apartment. In addition, they added magnetic rails on the kitchen wall to hang silverware and free up even more counter space. The couple even gained a stylish lounge area where they could kick back and relax after a long day.
“You just have to have the right pieces in the right place, and you can have all the elements of a larger house,” says Vivian.
Not only did the makeover have an impact on the apartment’s appearance, it also alleviated the stress that the clutter was causing for the couple.
“When I come home, it’s a lot more relaxing,” says Dominic, who can now focus on his studies rather than searching all over the apartment for lost items.
