Ian Somerhalder, actor and former CW star who played Damon Salvatore on “The Vampire Diaries,” recently sat down for an interview with his wife, Nikki Reed.

The celebrity couple welcomed their first child together in July 2017, and they were talking about the exciting and daunting experience. Everything was going smoothly, until…

The interviewer asked Ian and Nikki when they first set out to have a baby.

“May,” Ian said.

“Oh when you threw out all my birth control pills,” Nikki responded. “That’s right.”

Say what?!

Ian continued: “Unbeknownst to poor Nikki, she didn’t realize I was going to go in her purse, take out her birth control, and pop them all.

By the way, it was at the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all those suckers out. There was like 25 of them.”

The actor also said he caught the whole thing on video, from flushing the pills to Nikki’s reaction when she found out what he had done.

The story is sparking a lot of backlash. “Reproductive coercion is a form of abuse,” one online commenter says. Many others seem to agree, saying what Ian did violated Nikki’s reproductive rights.

However, Nikki has since responded to the criticism on Twitter, but her comments only seem to be fueling the fire.
