Devastated Family’s House Is Destroyed By Flood. 2 Weeks Later, Church Friend Offers Them A Home

by Lindsey Smith
Lindsey is from Florida and has worked in online and print media. Her happy place is Michaels craft store.

At the end of August of 2017, Hurricane Harvey ripped through Texas, leaving a devastating path of destruction and flooding in its wake.

Gigi’s family was one of many who saw their home become completely destroyed by floodwaters from the hurricane.

On September 8, 2017, Gigi took to her Twitter account to post a photo of what her home looked like covered by floodwaters. While her family was displaced by the hurricane, a kind neighbor from their church stepped in to help.

A woman from their church was planning on selling her home, but once she found out Gigi and her family needed somewhere to stay, she kindly offered up the home! Thousands of people around the world have commented and liked her post that shows the goodwill and kind deed done by this woman.

This is Gigi. She and her family were greatly affected by Hurricane Harvey, which tore through Texas.

It was the first major hurricane to hit South Texas since 1970. It had wind gusts of 120 miles per hour or more, not to mention extreme storm surges.

With these surges came flooding, and cities all over the state were underwater. Unfortunately, Gigi’s home was completely destroyed and left underwater.

Two weeks after Hurricane Harvey, Gigi posted on her Twitter account about her home. She explained that a woman from her community and church had offered to let her family live in a house that she was planning to sell.

This is Gigi’s Twitter post about her home and her family’s new house, thanks to a kind woman from her church.

Her caption reads:

God is so good! 2 weeks after Harvey took our home away from us, a woman from our church blessed us with her home she was about to sell.

It is absolutely amazing that someone helped out a family that had lost everything.

Gigi posted this photo of her house. You can see that it is almost completely submerged in water.

Some areas of Texas received up to 40 inches of rain in 48 hours, with many other parts of Texas being hit with 10 to 12 in a day.

To put that into perspective, many parts of Texas only receive two inches of rain per month, according to reports on weather.gov.

Gigi also posted this photo of the new house that the kind church lady gave to her family.

While they aren’t living rent free, she is being very flexible with Gigi’s family.

In a reply to her post, Gigi wrote:

She’s letting my mother keep the furniture and isn’t rushing her on any payments. I’m forever indebted to this woman for taking care of us.

It wasn’t only Gigi who was amazed by the generosity of this woman. Strangers all over the globe replied to her post about how amazing it was that she would offer up the house.

One user replied saying:

Wow she truly has a heart of gold I can’t wait until the day I’m able to bless others as people have blessed me.

Not only were commenters like this one in awe of her generosity, many also agreed that they would love to be able to give back in the same way.

Commenters like this were touched so much by her goodwill during such a devastating time.

Gigi can smile big now that she and her family have a roof over their heads.
