I have a serious sweet tooth — and because of this, I love to bake!

Due to my confection addiction, I’ve got all the basic ingredients I need to whip up a sugary treat in my cabinet — including flour, baking soda, and powdered sugar.

And I’m always looking for new and interesting ways to use these baking staples, as with this adorable and delicious spin on red velvet cake!

But since I bake so often, I sometimes run out of staple ingredients — which I never notice until the very last minute. Then, I have to rush out to the grocery store to get that one thing I thought I had, but sadly, didn’t. If only there was a magical trick that would allow me to make that ingredient at home…

Well, believe it or not, if it’s brown sugar you crave, you actually can make it at home!

All you need to do is mix two other very basic baking ingredients together and — voila! – you’ve got brown sugar. The best part? You can make it in less than five minutes!

So next time you run out of brown sugar, don’t dash to the store, instead watch this video below — it’s a serious time saver!
