The Pacqui Chip is known as the world’s hottest chip.
It is made with the Carolina reaper pepper, which according to Guinness World Records is the hottest pepper around.
The spicy heat of peppers is measured by the Scoville scale in Scoville heat units (SHU). For reference, a regular poblano pepper has anywhere between 1,000 and 3,500 SHU.
The Carolina reaper has an average SHU of 1.5 million, and can reach as far as 2.2 million.
And with a name like that, you can only imagine the type of heat and spice that chip must pack.
The Pacqui Chip craze began when the #onechipchallenge started making the rounds online. People would try just one chip to see if they could handle it.
In the video below, the anchors of KDVR’s Daybreak morning show decided to try the challenge themselves!
They thought they would be provided with milk in time for the challenge to smother the spice, but in the end, they had to take the bite without it.
All the anchors had different reactions to the flaming-hot chip, but Natalie Tysdal may have suffered the worst.
She grimaced the moment she took a bite, began to cough, and couldn’t even form coherent sentences anymore!
