Woman Uses Facebook To Escape Abusive Marriage And Ends Up Reconnecting With High School Crush

by Lindsey Smith
Lindsey is from Florida and has worked in online and print media. Her happy place is Michaels craft store.

Donna Frost was in a verbally abusive marriage for 14 years and didn’t think anything would change that. In order to keep a smile on her face, Donna would scroll through Facebook and watch cute videos or read positive status updates. However, she never expected to find someone from her past.

On September 9, 2009, a familiar face popped up while she was scrolling on her Facebook. It was her old high school crush from 36 years ago, David Hughes. “You know that butterfly feeling that schoolgirls get when they see a cute guy in the hallway?” Donna told WTSP Tampa about seeing his profile. “He was the dreamy guy with the big brown eyes in high school!”

Donna decided to send him a message but had no idea it would completely change the course of her life.

The pair began talking and learned they lived only an hour or so away from each other in Florida after moving from a small town in Massachusetts.

When they finally met up after three decades, Donna couldn’t contain her excitement. “I was running down the pier, I see him and I jumped up — arms around his neck!” Donna smiled.

The pair didn’t wait long and got married on November 5, 2011. “It’s been an awesome journey,” David said. “We’re soulmates.”
