The Easy Fire is just one of the devastating wildfires burning through Southern California. It broke out early one morning in the Simi Valley, scorching thousands of acres of land.

As firefighters battled the fire, which rapidly spread toward a livestock ranch, a camera crew captured one truly powerful moment (and now-viral video) starring the animals on the ranch.

Rescuers desperately tried to corral the horses to safety, but one elderly thoroughbred named Prieta was determined to save her equine family no matter what.

Prieta was initially led to a clearing on the main road, and she was out of harm’s way. But in a stunning turn, the beautiful black horse risked her life by charging back into the fenced-in pen surrounded by thick smoke and flames!

Prieta warned her steeds — which included a pony named Onyx — gathered them up, and escorted them through the smoke and flames via an opening in the fence.

This incredible and heroic animal tapped into her natural maternal instincts in order to protect her fellow horses.

“Animals have the same instincts that we do,” horse trainer Cynthia Shea told Inside Edition. “We want to take care of our own. We want to take care of our group.”
