Having a pet comes with many benefits: You are loved unconditionally by a furry friend, and studies show that they can calm you down when you’re feeling anxious.

I have two cats at home, and I can’t even imagine my life without them.

But did you know that your dog or cat can actually save your life, too? After all, they have special abilities that humans don’t possess, such as a superior sense of smell.

One family found out exactly how special their cat really was when the feline, named Houdini, started meowing incessantly in the middle of the night. Peter McEvoy was woken up by the cat’s strange behavior, as the animal was also clawing at him and jumping on the bed.

But he soon realized that he’d heard Houdini’s meows just in time. The house was on fire and, seconds later, totally engulfed by the flames. The dad, his wife, and their two young children escaped to the backyard and were trying to jump over the fence to safety when neighbors found them.

Luckily, they all escaped with their lives, as did the family dog. However, Houdini was nowhere in sight. The hero cat is currently presumed to be buried under the rubble. The family hopes that he will soon be found alive.

Please SHARE if you hope Houdini will be found safe and sound!
