Do You Know What Your Aura Looks Like? Here’s How To Find Out!

I’ve always heard that children are more in touch with the metaphysical than adults are.

Maybe it has something to do with creativity and unfettered imaginations, or maybe it has something to do with the wisdom of the very young, like this little one doing everything in her power to save the planet.

Regardless, there are a lot of abilities we have as kids that we lose as we grow up, and don’t even really remember later. Fortunately, it’s almost always possible to relearn those skills as grown-ups.

One common example is the ability to read auras. Lots of people have vague, early memories of seeing colors on or around the people in their life, colors that other people couldn’t see.

These colors are called auras, and they’re a representation of an individual’s higher spiritual being.

Seeing auras can tell you a lot about yourself and about the people in your life.

If you once saw auras, but brushed it off as the product of an active imagination, or if you never saw auras at all, it’s never too late to learn. Check out our comprehensive guide below.

How To Read Auras
Step 1: Stand Against A Plain Wall

If you’re trying to read your own aura, wear plain, comfortable clothes and stand against a neutral-colored wall, preferably across from a full-length mirror. If you don’t have a full-length, make sure you have a good-size handheld mirror.

To read the aura of someone else, have your subject dress comfortably and stand against a plain wall. The colors of the aura will show up best against a plain wall.

Step 2: Get The Right Light

Natural daylight is best for seeing an aura, so try to time your reading for the best light.

If you have an eastern exposure, try early morning. For a western exposure, aim for evening.

If you can’t capture the daylight, try to recreate the effect with soft lamps and candles.

Step 3: Unfocus Your Eyes

It might sound funny, but you know those “floaters” you can see if you keep your eyes unfocused? The same principle applies to seeing auras.

If you fixate too much on any one detail, the aura will disappear, but if you wait quietly and stare into the middle distance, eventually colors will begin to become apparent.

Step 4: Redirect Your Gaze

Step 4: Redirect Your Gaze

In the same vein, don’t stare directly at your subject. Pick a spot on the wall a foot or two away, and wait a minute or so.

Your peripheral vision will start picking up on the colors of the aura while you’re tricking your brain into thinking you’re focused on the wall.

Try to remember those colors without looking directly at them.

Step 4B: Focus Hard And Blink

If neither of these techniques works for you, try staring directly and focusing hard on your subject for 30 to 60 seconds.

Then, blink rapidly while staring at the blank wall next to them.

This should give you an “after-image” that might help you to pick up the colors you’re seeing around them with less pressure.

Step 5: Jot It All Down

Before you forget, quickly make a note of everything you see.

As soon as you spot a color, make sure you write it down. It may also help to draw quick pictures of the subject, or to make swatches of the different colors or shades you see with colored pencils or watercolors.

Once you have a record, it’s time to start deciphering the meanings of the different colors.

Aura Colors And Their Meanings
Aura 1: Yellow

If you spot a yellow aura, the subject is highly intelligent, and puts a lot of stock in logic and critical thinking. This person is methodical, but very creative.

They can follow a spark of inspiration through into a solid, real-world idea, and are generally filled with optimism for a future, since they can see which steps to take in order to make a hopeful opportunity unfold.

Aura 2: Orange

A subject with an orange aura is warm, open-hearted and impetuous. They might sometimes jump into action before thinking things through all the way, but that impulsivity just adds to their charm!

Outgoing, charming, and spontaneous, a person with an orange aura is the ultimate party guest.

In between celebrations, they have a strong maternal instinct and love to take care of their friends and family.

Aura 3: Red

Unsurprisingly, red is a powerful color for an aura. It speaks to an intensity in the spirit of the subject, and this person will elicit strong emotions in others, no matter what.

Some people love them, others can’t stand them, but no one feels neutral when it comes to an individual with a red aura.

They’re leaders and power brokers who can command a room in an instant.

Aura 4: Blue

If your subject has a blue aura, you are most likely dealing with someone who keeps calm under pressure.

This person is generally quiet and reserved, but notices absolutely everything happening around them.

Deeply intuitive, people with blue auras tend to be excellent at reading the auras of others, and of generally getting the measure of any situation. Good in a crisis, they radiate tranquility.

Aura 5: Green

As is often the case, seeing the color green in an aura is a strong indicator that the subject has a strong relationship with the natural world.

This person might have some innate healing skills, whether that means a wonderful green thumb in the garden, or a reliable and comforting shoulder to cry on.

Practical and pragmatic, this person is as solid and dependable as the earth under your feet.

Aura 6: Purple

A subject with a purple aura probably has a flair for the dramatic.

Purple is a color that was historically associated with royalty, and this individual probably carries him or herself with the bearing of a monarch.

Highly sensitive, this individual can be fragile in the face of setbacks, but is also receptive to inspiration in every form, making them a true artist and visionary.

Aura 7: Rainbow

A subject who appears to be wrapped in a rainbow of colors is an individual who is in touch with all of the different aspects of the spiritual world.

This person is probably a strong healer with a capacity for sensing the inner natures of everyone he or she meets.

Like a prism, this person takes in the light of everyone around them, and reflects it back as a whole rainbow of colors.

Aura 8: Black

Keep a close eye out for a black aura, or a very dark shade of any other color.

Most of the time, this is not the true color of the subject’s aura, but a representation of a negative emotional state.

This person may be going through a period of grief or loss, and pulling on the auras and energies of the people nearby.

This person needs support and cleansing to return to their true aura, or they will become an emotional drain on those around them.

Aura 9: White

Conversely, a white aura is a sign of someone with an exceptionally clean or pure spirit.

You often see this kind of aura around babies and very elderly people toward the end of life. They may also sparkle, indicating that an angelic presence is near.

If you see this aura around a person who is not very young or very old, you are probably in the presence of someone guided by a higher power, whether they know it or not.
