A video of a security guard and a blind man has gone viral on Facebook with nearly one million views.
While Tina sat, she noticed something through the window. A blind man appeared and seemed to be trying to cross the busy, slushy street. Then, a security guard from the institute quickly went to his side and gave the man his arm.
“Saw [the security guard] walking across the road with his arm on him, so I turned on my video, caught it on tape,” Tina said to CBS.
Tina posted it on Facebook where it quickly went earned a ton of views.
This isn’t a one-time situation either. According to Patty Liepold, who works at the institute, helping this blind man down the street is very common. In fact, it’s an integral part of their community.
“It’s kind of like an inherited thing,” Patty said. “Anyone that comes work here knows that you may have to walk Jerry across the street. It’s just part of it. It’s the right thing to do.”
Jerry is the blind man. According to CBS, Jerry’s vision and hearing impairment and his bad legs make it hard for him to walk with a dog. Instead, his neighbors walk with him.
“Just thank you guys for helping me,” Jerry said. “I do need your help, so thank you so much.”
