Grieving Parents Hear Their Deceased Son’s Heartbeat In Transplant Recipient’s Chest

Giovanna was born in Rome, Italy and currently resides in South Salem, New York. In her free time, she likes to cook with her children and grandchildren.

Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare. That nightmare came true for Marla and Bob, when their son Rob fell from a ladder when he was just 30 years old.

Rob initially stood up after his fall, but soon passed out from his injuries — and never woke up. Marla and Bob were faced with a decision no parents should ever have to make. Their son was young and at the prime of his life. The thought that he could be gone must have seemed inconceivable. After grappling with the decision, the couple decided to donate Rob’s tissues and organs to a needy recipient. “I’m sure if Rob was behind me, he’d tell me to go ahead and do this,” Bob said. “Because that’s the kind of guy he was.”

Elisabeth was a mother who was suffering from heart failure due to side effects of chemotherapy. She was granted a new lease on life when she received Rob’s heart.

In the emotional video below, Bob and Marla meet the woman inside whom their son’s heart now beats, strong and steady. Elisabeth tearfully greets Rob’s parents, expressing her gratitude, calling it the “greatest gift” she’s ever received.

For their parts, Bob and Marla are both touched by Elisabeth’s deep thanks and visibly moved to meet the woman whose life was saved by their and Rob’s donation. “My son would be proud to know he’s helped someone like this,” Bob tells her.

Watch below as Bob and Marla listen to a sound they never expected to hear again: the sound of their beloved son’s heartbeat.
