As the saying goes, if you’ve got it, flaunt it!

And that’s exactly what this 71-year-0ld grandmother of two is doing with her newfound love of burlesque!

Marilyn Bersey says she took up the unusual hobby after her 70th birthday last year. Marilyn’s kids had moved away, and her husband, unfortunately, had died after battling Parkinson’s disease. She felt like she had lost her identity.

Burlesque encompasses everything I want to do. From the first day I was hooked. I suddenly felt feminine and so glamorous,” she told Caters News. “Before, I’d felt like I’d lost all my femininity. Since my husband was ill there was nothing to make me feel glam.

I’d lost that wife role. Sex was out of the window; there was nothing making me feel sexy.”

Aww! Poor Marilyn! That had to have been so difficult!

“It was like I was just existing. I felt very alone. I felt there was something missing,” she continued. “At 70 years old, people have this idea that you’re old and should just sit at home, but that’s not me. I wanted something to make me feel like a woman, to feel glamorous and to feel desired.”

Marilyn said she was hesitant to do burlesque at first, but she now goes once a week and learns routines with the rest of her class — which includes young women who are her grandsons’ ages (22 and 27).

“It’s made me feel sexy again. I’m quite happy doing what I’m doing and if [I] met someone I’d feel confident enough to go for it,” she said. “I would say to anyone just to try it. We’re all living longer and should be out there doing things, not staying at home feeling miserable.”
