On Monday, October 22, Kandis Leake dropped off her 7-year-old daughter, Kaydence Holloway, at New Sardis Baptist Church’s day care. A little while later, Kaydence boarded a day care bus that would bring her to school.
Kaydence nodded off on the school bus, and when she woke up, she realized she was totally alone. The bus was parked back outside the day care, and Kaydence was trapped inside. The 7-year-old had no easy exit, since the doors and windows were shut.
The bus driver hadn’t realized Kaydence was asleep on the bus, so he’d driven back to the day care and left the little girl on the bus.
Six hours later, Kaydence was finally found by another bus driver. According to Kandis, Kaydence eventually opened a window and jumped out of the bus.
Kandis panicked when Kaydence didn’t come home on the bus — she knew something was wrong. Luckily, Kaydence was safe and sound (but she probably won’t fall asleep on the school bus again anytime soon!).
When Pastor Darell Harrington, who works at New Sardis Baptist Church, found out what happened, he was dismayed. He immediately fired the driver and put the day care director on administrative leave.
While Kandis appreciates Pastor Harrington’s swift action, she says she won’t be using the day care again.
