Two young girls were walking home from school in their Colorado neighborhood when a strange car pulled up next to them.

A man flung open the door and told the girls to get in the car.

Hayden, 10, grabbed her younger sister’s hand and ran from the car, screaming. The men in the car quickly drove away. It was a busy time of day, and they were walking on a busy street, so luckily the two girls stayed safe.

Their dad, Justin Kruger, was shocked when he found out what happened. “I never thought this would happen,” he said. “Our neighborhood is safe.”

Luckily, Justin had taught his daughters well.

Hayden and her 6-year-old sister, Veyda, knew exactly what to do when strange men approached them. Hayden’s quick thinking kept her safe.

Justin explained: “I told her, ‘I’m super proud of you. You did what you’re supposed to do and you literally saved you and your little sister’s life.'”

Police are searching for the suspects, but they don’t have much to go on. Justin knows it’s unlikely that the police will catch the men who tried to lure his daughters into their car.

He hopes this incident will serve as a wake-up call for other parents. Now he’s encouraging families to talk about what to do during attempted abductions.
