Anicee Lamoreaux-Ferrerio broke more than 100 bones before the age of 10. She was born with osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a rare genetic disorder that causes brittle bones.

One big sneeze could crack her ribs.

Anicee was born in Belize and lived in an orphanage for years. Doctors tried to mend her broken bones with casts, but she was never able to receive the necessary surgeries.

At six years old, Anicee was connected to a couple from Colorado. Lisa and Chris have known each other since they were babies. They’d lost contact over the years but reconnected online and fell in love. They always wanted to be parents but couldn’t conceive a child.

And they both have OI.

Lisa and Chris heard about Anicee through an adoption agency and were very interested in meeting her. On Mother’s Day 2010, they scheduled a trip to Belize. And there at the orphanage was Anicee, sitting in her stroller with her legs severely bowed.

The couple took one look at Anicee and instantly knew.
