Sherri Gonzales had just walked into a Home Depot in Colorado when she heard the sound of a small but mighty voice calling out from behind her.
“Black lives matter!” the voice defiantly cried.
Sherri turned around and realized those three words had just come from a 4-year-old girl, who is white.
The girl’s mother didn’t expect her daughter, Cam, to call out to the stranger like that. She didn’t know what would happen next, or if the encounter would turn awkward for Sherri.
But Sherri, realizing just how earnest and passionate Cam was, walked over to her and thanked her for “recognizing that my life matters.”
Sherri and Cam spent the next few minutes talking, getting to know one another, and even posing for a photo together. Then Sherri and Cam’s mom exchanged phone numbers.
Days later, Sherri received a call from Cam’s mother — with a gift she never saw coming.
Now a friendship has been sparked … all because of a compassionate little girl and her awesome mom.
