On January 13, 2018, animal rescue workers found an abandoned German shepherd in Brooklyn, New York.

The poor 1-year-old dog, later named Buddy, was in bad shape when he was found.

“I observed the dog tied up and noticed he was missing part of his leg,” the kennel worker who’d discovered him told WPIX. The reason? The German shepherd had gnawed off his leg in an attempt to free himself from where he’d been tied to a fence.

“He probably didn’t have much feeling at the end of his limb at that point in time, but it was causing him enough discomfort to do what he did,” Jennifer Anderson-Khan with Blue Pearl New York City said.

Thankfully, Buddy received the attention, care, and love he deserved after being abandoned in the cold. Just days later, the German shepherd has made a miraculous recovery from his injuries.

While he may have to get his back left leg amputated or fitted for a prosthetic, this isn’t keeping potential dog parents away. The animal shelter he is at has received tons of inquiries about his adoption!

“He has stolen a lot of hearts here — people love him,” Jennifer said. “We definitely have gotten a lot of questions, people checking up on him. They want to know how he’s doing.”
