While it may seem like some women get pregnant without any problems, many others struggle to conceive. Infertility can affect anyone at any age, and if you’re someone struggling to have a baby, you may have to look to certain medical procedures for help.

But despite the obstacles that may arise, many women are determined to become mothers. Actress Gabrielle Union is one of those women. She is married to NBA star Dwyane Wade, and the couple has tried for a baby for the past three years.

In her new book, We’re Going to Need More Wine, the actress opens up about her miscarriages, saying that she suffered about eight or nine, and that her IVF treatments have failed her.

The 44-year-old adds that she didn’t envision being a mom until she became the stepmom to Dwayne’s nephew Dahveon Morris, 16, and his sons from a previous marriage, Zaire, 15, and Zion, 10.

She told People: “I never wanted kids. Then I became a stepmom, and there was no place I’d rather be than with them.”

She adds: “For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?’ A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on.”

“People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”
