LaTroya Woolridge was pregnant with fraternal twins when she began experiencing severe labor pains. She was only 24 weeks along, and when she began vomiting, she knew something was horribly wrong.
After rushing to the hospital, LaTroya received the shocking news that she was already in labor. She was given two options, but neither one lessened her fear and anxiety.
The first option was to deliver both babies prematurely via C-section. The second option was to deliver the first baby naturally… and wait to see what would happen with the twin. LaTroya chose the latter.
Her daughter Amara weighed just over one pound at birth. As for Amara’s brother, Arthur, doctors wanted to keep him in the womb for as long as possible. They told LaTroya the extra time would be beneficial for his overall health.
“I didn’t even know that was possible,” LaTroya told Inside Edition. “I have heard of twins being born on different days because they were a few minutes apart, but I had no idea that it was possible for twins to be born with a significantly different date of birth.”
Not only did LaTroya have to worry about the baby still holding on inside her womb, she also had to watch Amara fight for her life in the NICU. However, seeing her baby daughter alive gave her the strength to keep herself physically rested and emotionally strong so Arthur would have a better chance at survival.
Exactly two weeks after the birth of Amara, LaTroya developed a worrisome fever. Back to her doctor she went, and this time it was Arthur’s turn to be delivered.
