Over 55 years ago, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley made television history. The iconic singers, who had been musical rivals since the 1950s, had millions tuning into ABC’s television special, Welcome Home Elvis.
It was Presley’s first televised appearance in since coming home from his military service in Germany.
From Sinatra bringing the Rat Pack back with Bing Crosby to Elvis’ Aloha from Hawaii show, these two had plenty of iconic TV moments through the years. They finally came together on May 12th, 1960 at the Fontainebleau Hotel to film the TV special.
Singing a mashup of their biggest hits, Sinatra doles out his version of “Love Me Tender” while Presley serves up a hip-shaking rendition of “Witchcraft.” Even though it was Presley’s first TV appearance in over three years, he hadn’t lost any of his charisma.
In fact, he was utterly charming and sexy, showcasing the vocals and moves that had made him famous. Even Sinatra had to chuckle at the screams from the young women in the audience.
These two singers are simply the best, and together there’s nothing like them! Doesn’t this bring back so many great memories? Even if you weren’t born yet, there’s no denying that these two are among the greatest and most talented entertainers ever to grace the stage.
