Former Mrs. Florida Admits Stealing Mother’s Social Security Checks As She Battled Alzheimer’s

A former Mrs. Florida is looking at a less-opulent lifestyle than she’s used to. Karyn Turk is 47 years old and was crowned with her title in 2016.

She has amassed an impressive social media following over the years. She’s made a name for herself as a vocal Trump supporter and conservative commentator. Now she’s facing time behind bars.

Karyn pleaded guilty to misdemeanor Social Security fraud. She was sentenced to one month behind bars and five months of house arrest for stealing her 83-year-old mother’s Social Security checks. The woman was battling Alzheimer’s and owed $219,000 in nursing home bills.

While prosecutors claim Karyn used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle, she’s refuting those claims.

“I in no way was using my mother’s money to furnish some sort of lavish lifestyle,” she told Inside Edition. “I was advised by my lawyers that [pleading guilty] was in my best interests and I did that. I did feel by doing that it was going to allow me to move forward and unfortunately, in the process, I have been strung up in the media as something that I am not.”

As for why the nursing home her mother resided at wasn’t paid, Karyn says she refused to pay for inadequate care. Instead, she claims to have used the checks to pay for private care. “My mother died under horrific conditions,” she said. “She died of severe neglect with bedsores all over her body, in a condition that no one should have to live through.”

“The money has been returned to the government, I made full restitution for every dollar that they had in question,” she said. “Knowing what I know now, I would have done things very differently.”
