These Are The Foods That Will Help You Poop If You’re Constipated

Everyone can agree that “constipation is such a pain in the butt.”

The joke is delivered deadpan at the start of this advice clip from The Doctors, but really, you know it’s true.

We’ve all been there — awkward as it is to talk about — and have desperately wished for some relief.

But if you’re not in the mood for a pharmaceutical laxative, maybe one of these foods holds the key to getting everything moving again!

Proctologist David Rosenfeld is here to help you… well, help you poop. He leads off with chia seeds, something that the Aztecs and Mayans ate in ancient days for strength in battle. These days, the seeds will give you the strength to get your next bowel movement out.

“Most of us are constipated because we’re dehydrated,” explains the doctor as he introduces coconut oil. “So if there’s a little lubricant in the stool, it’s going to help keep it soft.” While you shouldn’t necessarily trust a PhD’s skills in the kitchen, Dr. Rosenfeld goes on to explain the numerous ways to work a tablespoon of coconut oil into your daily diet.

And for all you fruit lovers out there, kiwi is brilliant for constipation. There are apparently multiple studies that show this little green fruit works like magic to get your system moving again.
