Waking up in the morning is never fun. Often, the only thing that makes a difference between being alert and sleepwalking for the first few hours of the day is a refreshing iced coffee or tea.
Sometimes I try to be thrifty by making my own at home. However, this usually results in a weak, flavorless drink, watered-down ice cubes, and disappointment. As a result, you’re more likely to see me with a store-bought version picked up on my way to work.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to make coffee-shop-worthy drinks at home, like this mint mocha shake, but figured it was beyond my abilities.
That was before being introduced to the idea of homemade flavored ice cubes. Making these flavored cubes is easy enough for a child to do. At the same time, they can transform any average homemade drink into something delicious that tastes like it was made by a pro.
The below recipes each give the iced coffee or tea of your choice its own personality. The caramel and chocolate options are perfect for homemaking your favorite caramel or mocha latte. The honey-and-lavender-infused cubes can give your tea or even a glass of water an all-natural floral flavor.
These flavored ice cubes will change the way you enjoy refreshing beverages the moment you pop them out of their trays. Learn how easy it is to make them yourself by scrolling below.
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tbsp. coconut oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 sprig lavender
- 1 tbsp. caramel
- 1 cup milk
- To make the chocolate ice cubes, combine chocolate chips with coconut oil in a bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, then spoon mixture into ice cube tray.
- For the honey and lavender cubes, stir together water and honey until it is dissolved. Then, sprinkle in lavender before pouring into the tray.
- Stir caramel into milk to create the mixture for caramel cubes.
- Freeze all of the cubes overnight before using them with iced coffee or the drink of your choice.
