I see deer everywhere in my town. Whether it’s my front yard, the highway, or even a commercial parking lot, there is bound to be a deer somewhere.

However, when Lt. Nicholas Johnson and his fellow firefighters went to check out a damaged building, they didn’t expect to find a helpless deer inside.

In the video below, posted on September 20, 2017, Lt. Johnson explains: “We saw this incredibly damaged structure that we wanted to check out and get a couple pictures of. We were walking through the structure and as I was walking through it, this deer popped up and I don’t know who was more scared, myself or the deer.”

He adds: “It looked a little thirsty, so we went and got a couple of bottles of water, and I couldn’t believe how much water it drank.”

As the firefighter helped the deer, he realized that the forest animal had gone through four whole bottles of water very quickly. Of course, there was a reason for that.

In the video, he says: “The storm surge has taken out a lot of their fresh water supply, so it’s all mixed up with salt water.”

Luckily, this deer had nothing to worry about when Lt. Johnson and his fellow firefighters came to take care of him.
