I still remember the day I saw my rescue cat Haleigh on a local shelter’s website. I instantly fell in love with her because she was not only an older cat but she was on the hefty side and had the sweetest face imaginable.
I could tell she needed a loving home.
On September 19, 2017, the Jacksonville Humane Society posted a photo of a 24-pound cat named Faye who was up for adoption. “She will need a loving home to help her lose weight at a slow and steady pace outlined by our veterinarian,” the Humane Society wrote.
Just like I had instantly fallen in love with my cat, so did a little girl and her mom when they saw Faye’s photo. The family then drove two hours to the Jacksonville Humane Society to meet Faye and see if she was a match.
Luckily for both Faye and the family, it was love at first sight and the rescue cat has now found a forever home!

The Jacksonville Humane Society uploaded photos on Facebook and Instagram of a 24-pound rescue cat named Faye who was in search of her forever home. The 12-year-old senior cat was dropped off on a Wednesday and the shelter hoped for a quick adoption.
The Facebook post got tons of attention from animal lovers around the area and the post was shared over 400 times.
This is the picture the shelter posted, of Faye and a worker. It received over a thousand reactions and more than 400 shares.
The shelter said the following about Faye:
I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly, Jacksonville! This sweet kitty is named Faye and she weighs in at 24 lbs. Faye loves attention and likes when you scratch right above her nubby tail. She will need a loving home to help her lose weight at a slow and steady pace outlined by our veterinarian. Check the comments for additional pictures and a video.
One family instantly fell in love with her and decided to travel two hours to adopt Faye.
Faye was a little shy in meeting her new family and tried to hide, but her hefty build kept her from completely concealing herself!
Thankfully, she quickly warmed up to the little girl and her mom.
Faye and the family bonded and they knew they couldn’t leave the Humane Society without the rescue cat.
“Faye’s new mom was first in line when the doors opened. She will be the only pet in the home and will get lots and lots of love,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.
Here, the new family smiles after deciding to adopt the senior cat.
In a mock interview with the Humane Society, Faye “told” the shelter: “I would love a family who can see me for who I truly am. I’m a very friendly cat and I like affection. I might be super-sized now but with some help from a family, I can be healthy and that’s what I really want.”
And it looks like Faye’s wish came true!
Faye was lucky enough to get so much attention from families, and her adorable hefty figure probably had something to do with it.
Even though she only waited a day for a home, people from all over the country instantly fell in love with the adorable rescue cat and were so happy she found a family.
All of Faye’s Facebook posts received dozens of comments congratulating the cat on finding a home and thanking the family for adopting her.
The Jacksonville Humane Society uploaded a photo of Faye and her new sister from her first night in her new home to update fans of Faye on how she was doing.
“Looks like she’s getting plenty of love with her new sister,” one commenter wrote.
