Make This Faux-Fishtail Crown For A Romantic Everyday Look!

I’ve always been a fan of deceptively difficult hairstyles. These fancy ‘dos look hard to create, but when you see how they’re made, you realize that you could have totally tried it yourself! And they add a nice, fancy touch to whatever you’re wearing — whether you’re dressing up or dressing down.

Hair ‘crowns’ are one of those hairstyles that I thought I couldn’t master, but have turned into a go-to style in my repertoire, much like this three-minute updo. And this faux-fishtail crown is one that I love! All you need are some hair ties and bobby pins.

Start by dividing your hair into two pigtails and using elastics to secure them. Just a few inches below the elastic of one of the pigtails, add another. You should have a pigtail divided into two sections, one smaller than the other.

Create a gap in the smaller section using your fingers, and loop the rest of the pigtail over and through the gap — this gives the hairstyle its “fishtail.” Continue these steps on each side until the ends of your pigtails. “Pancake” each section by pulling each side outward.

Finally, depending on your hair length, wrap the two pigtails around your head and pin them right above your forehead with bobby pins!
