Just like human moms, animal moms sometimes need assistance giving birth to their babies. Labor isn’t easy, and when a cow in the Philippines was having trouble bringing her baby into the world, a farmer stepped in to help.

In the clip below, you can see just how much the mama cow is struggling. The farmer reaches into her until he’s elbow-deep, then uses all of his strength to pull the baby out.

The farmer has trouble getting a good grip on the slippery baby, and it takes him many pulls to completely get him out of Mom.

When the baby falls to the ground, though, he’s still not breathing. The farmer then has to take the next step and give him CPR.

The man seems to know exactly what he’s doing and alternates between wiping down the calf’s mouth and breathing into it.

Time is of the essence, and seconds could be the difference between life and death for this calf. It feels like an eternity passes, but the baby finally starts breathing — all thanks to the farmer!

Now watch the clip to witness the miracle of birth but also how beautiful the human-animal bond is!
