Duncan and Debra Lawrence were struck with a few financial difficulties. The couple decided to sell their huge four-bedroom home and trade it in for a narrowboat in 2013.

The family of four from the United Kingdom now spend their days traveling through the narrow canals of Great Britain.

The boat is 65-feet long. Duncan says his family is committed to the new lifestyle, which has saved them around £12,000 a year on bills.

Duncan was a truck driver who worked long hours to make ends meet. Now he is able to be a stay-at-home dad and spend more time with his two children while Debra works a part-time job at a cafe.

“I was spending up to 60 hours a week on the road and never got to spend much time with my wife and my children,” he said. “Not only that, but at the end of the month, when all the bills were paid, we were left with no money.”

His son and daughter still attend a local school and love being surrounded by wildlife on the lake. Debra admits that things aren’t always as convenient as they used to be, but the move has made their family stronger.
