On July 10, 2017, Hospital Corpsman First Class Ryan Lohrey passed away in a plane crash. The Marine had been heading to Arizona for military training.

He left behind his new wife, Cassie. The couple had only been married for a month.

Just three weeks after his death, Cassie learned she was pregnant.

Already devastated by her husband’s death, discovering that she was expecting his baby gave her a renewed hope.

“This baby has given her a reason to celebrate life again — and not just walk through it,” SaralynJ Photography wrote in a Facebook post. Cassie had hired a photographer to shoot the gender reveal party for her baby.

But this wasn’t just any gender reveal.

Cassie chose to hold the party on Veteran’s Day to honor Ryan’s memory, and she also asked some of his friends to help.

In total, 16 servicemen signed up to assist with Cassie’s gender reveal.

“It was very evident to me what a special man Ryan was and how many lives he had touched,” the photographer added on her Facebook.

The servicemen stood in a line in Cassie’s backyard, with her in the center, next to an American flag.

On cue, the servicemen popped open containers, releasing pink confetti into the air!

Cassie still hasn’t received benefits following Ryan’s death. You can donate to the Marine widow’s cause by visiting her GoFundMe page here.
