As we get older, the likelihood of getting injured increases. It’s only natural that our balance, strength, and reflexes diminish over time.

So when 83-year-old Bob Deal reached for a dead fish by the banks of a lake near his home, he didn’t expect to fall into the water — but he did.

His feet gave out from under him, and once he was in the lake, he found it difficult to pull himself out.

He started screaming for help, but no one came. Ten minutes passed before a neighbor heard the grandfather’s yells and ran for help. The only others around were pest exterminatorsJason Stottler and Paul Shuma, who happened to be working on Bob’s home.

They didn’t think twice about jumping into the lake to save the poor man. One tried pulling him out while the other lifted him from behind.

Luckily, Bob didn’t sustain any major injuries — just a few cuts and bruises. And it’s all thanks to a few unlikely heroes: the pest exterminators! The technicians even stopped by his home again to check on him.

Bob told WBRC, “I’m just eternally grateful for those guys because they didn’t have to do that. That’s not their line of duty. They are exterminators.”
